Digital City Models

A Digital City Model (DCM) is an accurate and thorough representation of a city in a 3-D environment. During recent years the need for 3D data depicting urban areas has increased. It is used in a variety of applications such as simulation and training systems, visualization, telecommunication planning, maintenance and analysis.

A standard DCM contains several datasets such as:

• 3-D buildings
• 2-D building footprints
• Street level vector data

East View Cartographic creates 3-D DCMs using conventional stereo aerial photos or satellite imagery. If the cost is a factor a DCM can be derived from monoscopic satellite imagery. In this case the building heights are being calculated from imagery parameters and building shadows.
