ASTER Imagery
ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) is an imaging instrument that is flying on Terra, a satellite launched in December 1999 as part of NASA's Earth Observing System (EOS). ASTER imagery products are distributed through the USGS, and we as a USGS Business Partner can offer all of these products to you.
In addition to its products used for scientific research, the ASTER 15m color imagery product is very useful in a number of ways. First, as a source for inexpensive medium resolution satellite imagery, with a vast global archive. Second, as a stereo imagery product which can be used to create 30m DEMs inexpensively. The only limitation, other than cloud cover, is the availability of topographic maps or other ground control, to provide high absolute accuracy.
