Declassified American Imagery

A massive collection of recently declassified photographs from American spy satellites has been made available commercially. Approximately 930,000 high-resolution photos were taken between 1959 and 1980. This collection is now held by the USGS, and is one of the imagery products we offer.

East View Cartographic has complete vector indexes of the entire collection, and thus we are uniquely qualified to integrate this imagery spatially into your projects.

The imagery was collected by a total of 10 different satellites, with some collecting stereo imagery while others collected mono (or nadir) imagery. Resolutions range from 2-3 feet up to 460 feet. The coverage is global in scope, but focuses more on areas of strategic importance during the Cold War and the years following.

This imagery is a film-based product but is available in digital scanned form. For high-resolution imagery, this includes micron-level scanning to maximize the resolution of the source imagery.
