JOG
Joint Operations Graphic (JOG) represents a base medium scale chart at 1:250,000 scale produced by NGA and mapping agencies of allied forces using the same product specification. There are two series of products: Joint Operations Graphic-Air (JOG-A) and Joint Operations Graphic-Ground (JOG-G). NGA is no longer validating and maintaining requirements for JOG-Gs. They are being phased out and replaced by JOG-As.
JOGs contain reference system and projection information in addition to built-up areas such as cities and towns; transportation networks such as airports, roads, railroads, and ferries; infrastructure such as power lines and pipelines; and landmarks and other cultural features besides natural features.
The JOG-A (series 1501A) is a standard series modified for aeronautical use. The JOG-A displays topographic data and aeronautical overprint depicting obstructions, aerodromes, special use airspace, navigational aids and related data. The JOG-A supports tactical and other air activities including low altitude visual navigation, helicopter operations, tactical and close-air support. Elevation values are given in feet.
The JOG-G displays topographic data such as relief, drainage, vegetation, transportation network, populated places, cultural features and coastal hydrography. The JOG-G supports ground forces employed in joint air/ ground operations and is used primarily for tactical and logistical planning and search and rescue operations. Elevations and contours are given in meters.
JOGs are available in paper, raster or vector formats. Currently over 2,000 JOGs worldwide (or ca. 25% of all theoretically existing JOGs) are available.
