In order to address this need, the Depart of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has developed the LandScan Global Population Database. As a commercial distributor of LandScan, East View Cartographic, Inc. offers this extremely valuable, completely unique GIS resource to its customers worldwide.

The LandScan dataset comprises a worldwide population database compiled on a 30" X 30" latitude/longitude grid. Using a set of complex calculations, utilizing a variety of spatial factors, a population count is assigned to each grid cell. The result is a gridded, worldwide, GIS population dataset. With this in-hand, any GIS user can perform virtually limitless global population analyses.
